Key Humidity Measurements

Relative humidity, or RH, is the most common humidity measurement. It indicates how much moisture is present in the air relative to the maximum amount the air can hold at its current temperature. It is often the first value users check when evaluating environmental conditions. 

Dry bulb temperature is the ambient air temperature measured by a standard thermometer. It represents the actual temperature of the air and serves as the reference for many environmental measurements. 

Dew point is the temperature at which moisture in the air begins to condense into liquid water. The closer the dew point is to the air temperature, the greater the likelihood of condensation forming on surfaces. For this reason, dew point is commonly used when evaluating moisture and condensation risks. 

Wet bulb temperature reflects the cooling effect of evaporation. It represents the lowest temperature air can reach through water evaporation. Because it combines the effects of temperature and humidity, wet bulb temperature is commonly used in HVAC and environmental applications to evaluate cooling conditions and evaporative cooling potential.

Humidity meters are used to verify environmental conditions, evaluate condensation risks, and monitor temperature and humidity over time. Common applications include: 

  • HVAC and Indoor Air Quality – verifying indoor comfort conditions and evaluating temperature and humidity levels within occupied spaces.
