New Product Development Manager
The New Product Development Manager will be responsible for all new test and measurement products sold under the Extech brand. This includes both sourcing and developing a proprietary line of new products.
Sourcing requires building relationships with existing and new suppliers and working with them in the successful launch of new products under the Extech brand name. This also requires working with various internal cross functional teams including supply chain, product engineering, sales, marketing and quality.
New product development responsibility requires taking the lead in the development of new products, including the development and implementation of program goals and leading a cross functional team, advancing a product from concept to production. Products delivered as a result of the development process must satisfy Extech’s quality standards and enhance Extech’s brand reputation in the marketplace.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities with suppliers, contractors, supply chain, engineering and manufacturing to successfully meet assigned project objectives.
- Lead cross functional program team/s responsible for development of new products for the Extech Instruments product portfolio. Manage projects that have a major impact on future revenue and market presence.
- Provide day-to-day coordination; monitor product performance and coordinate resolution of issues.
- Ensure that product requirements, project goals and business goals are met.
- Assess and manage program risks and budget as well as define and ensure adherence to project schedule. Work with Quality, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and customers to define product specifications and functions.
- Create and manage product development schedules, issues, and process requirements.
- Coordinate and conduct customer input programs; customer focus groups, customer needs analysis, customer profile development and customer demographic summaries.
- Work closely with outside development teams (primarily international) to resolve technical problems and devise new approaches to problems encountered.
- Manage and direct an Engineering Department; coach two engineers, manage performance, develop and implement standard operating procedures for department.
- Ensure clear communication channels within Engineering Team and cross-functional departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 30% including 3 to 4 trips to Asia annually and various tradeshows.
Requirements:
- BS Degree (BSEE or BSME preferred) and a 5+ years of Project Management experience required.
- 5-10 years of experience in leading the design and development of new electromechanical and digital products or experience in managing a technical function.
- 3+ Years of supervisory experience required.
- Experience with Asian development teams preferred. Ability to speak and /or read and write Mandarin Chinese is helpful.
- Must be familiar with or have experience in the engineering disciplines of mechanical engineering, system engineering, software engineering and electrical engineering.
- Must be familiar with functions of Manufacturing, Product Management, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Financial Analysis and Procurement.
- Experience gathering customer input and developing needs analysis.
- Experience working within Quality guidelines and an ISO9001:2000 environment.
- Familiarity with electronic and high voltage test equipment and a background in electronics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask in a team oriented, fast paced environment.
Regional Sales Manager
Extech Instruments, a subsidiary of FLIR Systems, is currently seeking an experienced Regional Sales Manager. This is a field based position; candidates must currently reside in, and have sales experience in Dallas, TX or Chicago, IL markets.
Extech Instruments, based in Waltham, MA, is a leading supplier of test and measurement instruments, and portable receipt printers with distribution in over 90 countries. Recently acquired by FLIR Systems in 2007, Extech's product portfolio has increased, adding thermal imagers and Infrared (IR) cameras to the current 15 product categories.
Extech, known for an innovative approach to product development, has made extensive use of Infrared technology for both measurement and for communication. Extech holds five patents incorporating IR in measurement instruments. It was the first company to introduce a portable printer with IrDA wireless communication.
FLIR Systems, Inc. located in Portland Oregon, is a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of thermal imaging and stabilized camera systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive regional strategy to achieve target goals.
- Work with Extech Senior Management and other Regional Sales Managers to determine the best model for distribution coverage in assigned region.
- Develop a strategy to increase mindshare and bookings growth with Key distributors in territory.
- Experience Building and Maintaining Top to Top Relationships with Key Accounts
- Territory Budget Responsibility including Sales, Expenses and Cooperative Marketing spend.
- Develop a strategy for developing new markets and accounts.
- Call on senior management of key distributors to develop, refine and discuss business plan for year.
- Work with Extech Instruments marketing, and sales teams to implement and measure effectiveness of new product introductions, counter days, and pro-active activities designed to create end user sales
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of three years experience managing large national or regional distributor accounts
- Experience in the Electrical/Industrial/HVAC/Electronics industries, familiarity with Extech products preferred
- Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills
- Superior negotiation and influencing skills
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task in a team oriented fast paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Willing to travel up to 60% of work week
